Controls Hub

Focal Point Controls Hub Resolves Dimming Protocol, Driver Selection, and Commissioning Before the CSI Specification Is Issued

The Controls Hub is the single reference that pairs every Focal Point luminaire family with its recommended driver, dimming protocol, commissioning process, and emergency compliance path. Use it to lock controls intent early in design development.

Supported Dimming Protocols

Each protocol maps to a driver platform, a commissioning approach, and a documented support story. Choose the row that matches the project's building management context.

Protocol Dimming Range Wiring Best Fit Commissioning
0-10V 10% to 100% Class 2 low voltage, 2 extra conductors Mid-size office retrofits, education Field-adjustable, no addressing
DALI-2 1% to 100%, log curve Polarity-free DALI bus, 64 devices per loop Class A offices, higher education, hospitals Factory-addressed, field scene programming
Lutron EcoSystem 1% to 100% EcoSystem digital bus Hospitality-adjacent workspaces, executive floors Lutron-certified commissioning partner
DMX / RDM 0.1% to 100% DMX512-A data line Cultural, museum, performance spaces Scene console programming
Phase-Cut (ELV / Triac) 5% to 100% Standard line voltage Legacy retrofit, residential-adjacent interiors Compatibility-list verified

Protocol Selection Decision Path

Step 01

Identify the Building Management Context

BMS integration, scene requirements, and occupancy-sensor density set the lower bound. Offices with BMS-driven schedules favor DALI-2; simple retrofits favor 0-10V.

Step 02

Confirm Emergency Egress Strategy

UL 924 integral batteries work across all protocols; central inverter designs require documented bypass of the dimming protocol during test cycles.

Step 03

Match Driver Platform to Luminaire Family

Our SmoothDim driver platform is protocol-agnostic, but family aperture and lumen package constrain which driver trim fits the housing. The hub lists allowable combinations.

Commissioning Documentation Standard

DALI-2 Addressing Schedule

Spreadsheet of every luminaire, short address, group assignment, and scene participation. Issued as factory-programmed baseline and updated during commissioning.

  • Factory preset short addresses
  • Group and scene participation map
  • Emergency DT1 device enumeration

Scene Programming Report

Named scenes with target illuminance, correlated color temperature, and fade time. Signed off by the lighting designer and stored in the O&M pack.

  • Target illuminance per scene
  • CCT and fade time documentation
  • Occupancy and daylight override rules

UL 924 Self-Test Verification

Monthly functional and annual duration test results recorded automatically by integral battery drivers, exported for code inspection.

Driver Replacement Map

Labeled driver locations and spare-part numbers delivered to facilities staff, simplifying mid-lifecycle replacement.
