Focal Point Services Carry a Specification From Design Intent Through Field Commissioning

Our Chicago application engineering group supports architects, lighting designers, electrical engineers, and contractors at every milestone. Each stage has a documented deliverable, named reviewer, and closing checklist.

Concept Framing & Luminaire Shortlist

We start from the architectural concept, ceiling module, and performance brief. You receive a shortlist of Focal Point families with preliminary IES photometrics, aperture drawings, and mounting compatibility notes mapped to the reflected ceiling plan.

  • Family shortlist with spec cutsheets
  • Preliminary IES files for AGi32
  • Aperture study across 2, 2.5, 3.5, 4, and 6 inch options
  • Ceiling-module compatibility matrix

Photometric Modeling & Glare Study

Our lighting engineers build photometric models in AGi32 or Dialux, report illuminance, uniformity, and UGR, and iterate optic and spacing choices against the brief. Glare, color, and contrast targets are documented with calculation inputs the engineer of record can verify.

  • AGi32 or Dialux models
  • Horizontal and vertical illuminance reports
  • UGR glare analysis for open-plan zones
  • Daylight-harvesting dimming curves

CSI Specifications, Revit Families, Submittal Pack

We issue CSI 3-part specifications, Revit families tuned to the project lookup tables, submittal PDFs, and signed certification letters. Emergency UL 924 schedules, driver selection, and controls protocol are resolved inside this package so the subcontractor pricing has one source of truth.

  • CSI 26 51 00 specifications
  • Revit 2021-2024 families and LOD 350 objects
  • UL 924 emergency schedule
  • Submittal PDF package with cut sheets

Submittal Review & Value Engineering

Our specification team reviews subcontractor submittals against the spec, evaluates substitution requests, and flags photometric deviations before they reach the engineer of record. When value engineering is requested, we document the delta in lumens, watts, and glare so the owner can make an informed call.

  • Submittal comment sheets
  • Substitution evaluation memos
  • Value-engineering trade-off tables
  • Lead-time & availability reports

Commissioning & Closeout

Startup, Scene Programming, O&M Handover

Factory-certified startup technicians commission DALI-2 addressable networks, program Lutron scenes, and verify UL 924 emergency self-test. Closeout includes labelled driver maps, warranty registration, and field-training for facilities staff.

  • DALI-2 addressing schedule
  • Scene programming report
  • UL 924 self-test verification log
  • O&M manual and training session

Who We Support on a Typical Project

Architects

Aperture, finish, and reveal detailing matched to the ceiling and material palette.

Lighting Designers

Photometric modelling, UGR glare review, color temperature selection, and substitution defence.

Electrical Engineers

Driver loads, circuit schedules, UL 924 schedules, and DALI-2 bus planning.

Contractors

Delivery scheduling, installation drawings, commissioning support, and warranty registration.

Bring Us Into the Project Early

Earlier engagement produces a cleaner specification and fewer substitution battles during procurement. Share the current project phase and we will match the right application engineer.
