When someone says "focal point" in commercial lighting, they mean one of two things. Either they're talking about where light physically converges inside an optical system, or they're talking about the visual centerpiece of a room. Confusing the two under normal conditions is a design risk. Confusing them when a deadline's pressing is a financial one.
